I'm Nikki, and it turns out figuring things out is kind of my thing.
My career looks like an unrelated series of jobs: managing large-scale weddings and corporate events in major London hotels, working in corporate IT, software distribution and procurement, building and running a boarding kennels business, and managing the digital and operational side of a busy animal behaviour practice.
Websites, systems, processes, finances, content, courses and all the assorted problems that land somewhere between “someone needs to sort this” and “how on earth do we do that?”
If names help: Thistle, Marriott, Unilever, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Reader's Digest, Computacenter, Bank of Scotland, Aegon. If they don't, ignore them. The useful part is the pattern, not the letterheads.
On paper it's a mess. In practice it has been the same job every time. Walk into something unfamiliar, work out how the pieces fit together, learn whatever needs learning, and get it finished.
Which matters to you for one reason. Small businesses don't have problems that turn up in tidy professional boxes either. A website problem turns out to be a booking problem. An admin problem needs a better system. A pile of documents turns out to want to be an app.
If you've ever been passed between specialists who each solved their own bit and left you holding the rest, you'll recognise the feeling.
So I learn what I need to learn, use the tools that make sense, bring in specialist expertise when it's genuinely needed, and get the thing done.
